The Trumpet's Message

Reading: Revelation Chapters 8 & 9

1. The Trumpet

The Hebrew word 'shofar' is translated 'trumpet' more often than not in the Old Testament. Like the two 'silver trumpets' mentioned in Numbers 10, the 'shofar,' or ram's horn trumpet, was also used on numerous occasions by the prophets and people of Israel.

The Almighty's Sabbaths, we know are:

  • Sacred convocations which all believers are commanded to attend.
  • Memorials of Salvation.
  • Times of Instruction.
  • Times of Feasting and Rejoicing.
  • Times of Warning!

2. The Trumpet's Message

The sound of the shofar calls to mind:

  • The giving of the Torah at Mount Sinai.
  • The call to worship on YaHuWaH 's Shabbats.
  • The destruction of Jericho, which prefigures the collapse of all the cities of the world.
  • The return of the Ark of the Covenant to Jerusalem.
  • The anointing of king Solomon, which prefigures the anointing of YAHUSHUA, the King of Kings - One infinitely greater than Solomon.
  • The dedication of the Temple.
  • And the final warnings from the Almighty detailed in the Seven Trumpets of Revelation.

3. The Trumpet's Sound

The blast of the trumpet (shofar), with its unique, piercing sound could be heard for miles around; and when it sounded at an unexpected time, fear gripped the hearts of the people.

Amos 3:6 Shall a trumpet be blown in the city, and the people not be afraid? shall there be evil in a city, and YaHuWaH hath not done it?
7: Surely Adonai YaHuWaH will do nothing, but He revealeth His secret unto His servants the prophets.
Zeph.1: 14 The great day of YaHuWaH is near, it is near, and hasteth greatly, even the voice of the day of YaHuWaH : the mighty man shall cry there bitterly.
15: That day is a day of wrath, a day of trouble and distress, a day of wasteness and desolation, a day of darkness and gloominess, a day of clouds and thick darkness,
16: A DAY OF THE TRUMPET and alarm against the fenced cities, and against the high towers.

Exposes Sin in Zion

Messages symbolized by the shofar always expose sin. There is no uncertainty, no vague hints, no ambiguity, but a clearly understood message which exposes disobedience.

Isa.58:1 Cry aloud, spare not, lift up thy voice like a trumpet, and shew my people their transgression, and the house of Jacob their sins.
Joel 2:1 Blow ye the trumpet in Zion, and sound an alarm in my holy mountain: let all the inhabitants of the land tremble: for the day of YaHuWaH cometh, for it is nigh at hand.
Jer.51:27 Set ye up a standard in the land, blow the trumpet among the nations…

4. Listen for the Trumpet of
YaHuWaH

The prophet Jeremiah in vision actually heard the Trumpet of YaHuWaH that will sound all over the earth. Listen to his words:

Jer:4:19 My bowels, my bowels! I am pained at my very heart; my heart maketh a noise in me; I cannot hold my peace, because thou hast heard, O my soul, the sound of the trumpet, the alarm of war.

Read these chapters if time permits.

Isa.27:13 And it shall come to pass in that day, that the GREAT TRUMPET shall be blown, and they shall come which were ready to perish in the land of Assyria, and the outcasts in the land of Egypt, and shall worship YaHuWaH in the holy mount at Jerusalem.
Zech.9:14 And YaHuWaH shall be seen over them, and His arrow shall go forth as the lightning: and Adonai YaHuWaH shall blow the trumpet, and shall go with whirlwinds of the south.
15: YaHuWaH of hosts shall defend them; and they shall devour, and subdue with sling stones; and they shall drink, and make a noise as through wine; and they shall be filled like bowls, and as the corners of the altar.
Isa.18:3 All ye inhabitants of the world, and dwellers on the Earth, see ye, when He lifteth up an ensign on the mountains; and when He bloweth a trumpet, hear ye.

A Tragic but Popular Response

Alas! most people are not interested in the messages from the Bible. They have their own agenda and most will do as they please. This is true of many Christians.

Jer. 6:17 Also I set watchmen over you, saying, Hearken to the sound of the trumpet.
But they said, We will not hearken.

5. Concluding Questions

  • How is it with me? How is it with you?
  • Have I heard YaHuWaH 's clear trumpet-like message about His Sabbaths?
  • Did I understand it - fully? Was it clear to me?
  • What has my response been to the Trumpet message? Do I keep YaHuWaH 's Shabbats?
  • Having understood it, do I pass it on to others: my neighbors, my relatives, my community?
  • Am I looking forward to the Seven Trumpets when Earth's systems will all collapse?
  • Am I ready for the Great Trumpet, the Last Trump when YAHUSHUA Messiah will return and the living will be changed and the dead will arise?

6. Trumpeters / Watchmen

Regardless of the world's response, or even that of the popular churches, trumpeters must sound the alarm and warn the world. Our lives depend upon passing on the message. We dare not keep silent.

Eze.33:1 Again the word of YaHuWaH came unto me, saying,
2: Son of man, speak to the children of thy people, and say unto them, When I bring the sword upon a land, if the people of the land take a man of their coasts, and set him for their watchman:
3: If when he seeth the sword come upon the land, he blow the trumpet, and warn the people;
4: Then whosoever heareth the sound of the trumpet, and taketh not warning; if the sword come, and take him away, his blood shall be upon his own head.
5: He heard the sound of the trumpet, and took not warning; his blood shall be upon him. But he that taketh warning shall deliver his soul.
6: But if the watchman see the sword come, and blow not the trumpet, and the people be not warned; if the sword come, and take any person from among them, he is taken away in his iniquity; but his blood will I require at the watchman's hand.
